We love daiso!

Check out my new storage goodies for my art journalling junk.  This cute lot cost only W8 000 total!  I got them in the daiso section of my local lotte mart supermarket.  Daiso is like a $2 shop only better.  It has everything in it and most things are only a couple of dollars.  I love it!

Lunar New Year

So that was the reason I had a lovely break last week.  I found out from F that it is traditional for bosses to give bonuses to their employees.  She said, of her friends some got W100 000, some 200 or 300. I got a box of oranges. Did that come across with dramatic effect?  I would rather have not known about the bonuses.  I was quite impressed with the traditional carefully decoratd box of fruit grown specially in Jeju (an island at the south that seems to be the pride of Korea). It was tied in a satin cloth so it was easy to carry home from school despite its 3 kilo weight. I thought they would be like tangelos since they had that knob on the top. I was surprised to see only 7 giant fruits in the heavy box, all so carefully packaged They were so huge, I added the pen to the photo for size comparison.  They peeled like a mandarin and were particularly delicious.  I shared a couple with the sister missionaries and have one left.

Second stay in Seoul

I can't believe it's been so long since my last  post.  So much has happened... I finally got my alien card.  It's a nice card, despite it's very un-PC name, and my job for next week is to get internet sorted.  A few weeks ago We got news that T would not be coming back. He is staying in England with his Mum now that his Dad has passed away. That was a shock and meant that the extra teaching load and taxiing between schools has continued on (I did hit them up for a taxi card since I could spend W100 000 a week on taxis if I have to go to BPD and back every day - Mr K said he would get me a card)  And since B is not very popular ATM, that leaves little ole me as not only the favourite teacher but the one Mr K consults about new teachers and books and stuff... And I've only been here 9 weeks! I'm resisting being called head teacher. Arghhh.  He says there should be more teachers right after this holiday, and it can't be soon enough for me. Also my 11am cl...

Some photos to share

So here are some gifts Korean style.  I actually don't know when this would be given, but see these gift boxes everywhere.  Yes, gift boxed fruit, spam, fish and meat.  I am speechless.  Did you see those prices?  Look at these very cute but hugely overpriced kids things.... Backpacks often have square tops and therefore zip open better than the round topped variety.  But how cute are these backpacks and caps?  These were like over W50000 in Hyundai department store.  Same price for the caps.  Pity because I would love to get Will, Matthew and ??? one each. Ok last photos today.  Cakes.  Koreans love their specialty cakes.   There are multiple dessert cafés and coffee shops everywhere although these photos are from the expensive food court on the basement floor of Hyundai again. But Starbucks and Patis Baguette bakery along with baskin Robbins and al. The cafés sell th...

this blogging thing....

It seems to be going pretty well.  I don't usually get to post the same day I write, and Im still sorting out the connection to get photos from my phone into a post.  There is an android app, but it didn't think I had a blog to post to.... and from what I have read, even when it does find your blog it is not good with pics. People mention that they are enjoying the blog and I like that i can put it out there and don't have to harrass people's emails, but it seems people are less likely to interact with me - few comments and about as many emails, so I don't know if that is very helpful.  a bit one sided I guess... so please.... if you don't feel comfortable commenting, I beg you to email!  I need contact! I've been here 7 weeks tomorrow I think, have an apartment, a phone, am comfortable finding my way around Cheongju by bus, or taxi if I have to, have been to Seoul a number of times, and the Temple twice.  I have 2 places to attend church.  I have a b...
